SONGWRITING COMPETITION – We’re looking for Cornwall’s young songwriter of the year. Open to 11-16 year olds, we’re out to prove that Cornwall’s got proper talent … we’ve got a fantastic prize package on offer too.

Are you aged 11-16? Do you love music? Could you write a great song? Lyrics and a melody will do but if you’ve got more … great. You don’t even have to perform it yourself. We’re looking for one fantastic song idea.

The winning songwriter will receive:

Recording Session – the winning songwriter will spend an afternoon or evening at Cube Recording Studio in Truro. You’ll work with our team of professional session musicians and singers, a sound engineer and producer who will record a version of your song.

• 100 copies of your song on CD – after mixing and mastering you’ll receive 100 copies of your song on CD. It’ll also be uploaded to iTunes and Spotify for the world to hear.

• Tickets to Looe Music Festival – you’ll enjoy a free family ticket to Looe Music Festival 2015 (worth over £200) and the opportunity to hear your song performed live on stage by one of this year’s performers.

• Goodie bag – you’ll also win a goodie bag stuffed full of Looe Music Festival and music related goodies.

HOW DO I ENTER? It’s simple. All you need are two verses, a chorus and a melody line. To enter your song, simply make a video or audio recording of yourself (or someone else) singing it, upload it to your own YouTube or Soundcloud page … and the email us a link to it (with songwriter in the subject line), together with your name and contact details, to That’s it! Our judges will review them and pick a winner.

Keep your song to under 3 minutes. Make sure your lyrics are clear.

Will be done by a panel of professional musicians and songwriters. A final vote will take place on 1st September 2015. Winners will be notified by 7th September 2015. Festival tickets will be supplied to the winning songwriter by email on 7th September 2015 and we’ll then be in touch to arrange studio dates.

The deadline for application is midnight on 31st August 2015. To apply, simply make a video or audio recording of yourself (or someone else) singing your song. Upload it to YouTube or Soundcloud and the email us a link (with SONGWRITER in the subject line), together with your name and contact details, to The competition is open to children aged 11-16 and in full-time education at secondary school in Cornwall. The judges decision is final. There are no cash alternatives to the prizes offered. Free tickets for Looe Music Festival are for 2015 only, and not transferable. Any songs with swearing or containing lyrics deemed to be offensive will be disqualified. Two alternative dates will be offered for the recording session and this will take place before 31st December 2015. The CD’s will be produced within six weeks of the recording session (after mixing and mastering). And, don’t worry, you’ll keep 100% of your songwriting copyright. So if it’s the next big hit you’ll have a fantastic demo to promote your talent.
